Seventeen-year-old Lily de la Cruz has albinism. She can't be out in the sun for too long and has lived a sheltered life until now. She was raised by her godmothers and foster grandfather, Lolo Narding, the nonagenarian majordomo of the mansion where Lily also works as a maid.
At school, Lily is bullied by her classmates. They call her "ghost" and "maligno" - offspring of fairy and human. The names cut deep because Lily doesn't know who her real father is.
To make matters worse, Lily is haunted and occasionally inhabited by the ghost of the Dragon Lady, a late-nineteenth-century socialite who died under mysterious circumstances. Will the Dragon Lady help Lily come into her own, or are her intentions more sinister?
